My Old Cacti Garden 2

25 August 2009 No Comment

This is the second post in my old cactus garden series. This garden was established in 1996. I had carted all the plants from rented house to rented house prior to buying our home and creating this garden. Actually Howard a landscape gardener created this garden. I’ll find a good shot of the whole garden as he created a wonderful oasis for us.

My old Cacti Garden

These plants have now grown so large that they dominate the entire backyard, sorry about that kids ;-) They look striking all year and absolutely stunning when in flower. Right now the magnificent Jade is finishing it’s stunning pink display which started months ago. The Aloes are now starting to bloom, which will make the Wattle birds who feast on them happy.

It was a massive task moving this garden in late 2004, but thankfully almost all the plants survived. The two that didn’t were both re-planted too deep. So if you ever move cacti or succulents make sure you don’t plant them too deep.

Coming up I post a few close up shots of some of the plants and them a few of the moving pictures, from when we transplanted these beauties. Who needs water tanks when you can enjoy these wonderful drought tolerant plants!
